Let’s discuss what to share here, what to add. ‘Meso-America’.
Meso-America is a historical region & cultural area, it extends approximately from central Mexico, through to Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, & Northern Costa Rica. Within this region pre-Columbian societies flourish, before the Spanish colonization of the Americas.
In the 16th century, European diseases like smallpox & measles caused the deaths of upwards 90% of the indigenous people. It was one of the five areas in the world where ancient civilisation arose independently, and the second in the Americas along with Norte Chico (Caral-Supe) in present day Peru, in the Northern Coastal region.
As a culture, Meso-America is defined by a mosaic of culture traits developed and shared by its indigenous cultures. Beginning as early as 7,000BCE, the domestication of cacao, maize, beans, tomatoes, avocados, the vanilla spice, squash & chili, as well as the turkey, and various breeds of dogs, new to the rest of the canine world.
The transition from paleo-indigenous-hunter-gatherer tribal groupings to well-organised agricultural villages. In the subsequent formative period, agricultural & cultural traits such as a complex mythological & religious tradition, a numeric system, and a complex calendar system were diffused through the area of Meso-America.
