Clan Cameron:
The Camerons are of a pure Celtic ancestry, and the Cameron of Lochiel is the chief house of the Clan. Ewen, younger son of Ewen, the 13th Chieftain of Lochiel was the founder of the House of Erracht, Ewen joined Prince Charlie at Glenfinnan, where, under Lochiel, he was second in command of the Camerons, Ewen’s daughter married Cameron of Scamadale, and his son, Lieutenant Alexander Cameron, who lead the Camerons in the last three hours of the Battle of Waterloo.
The eldest son of Alexander, Alan Cameron of Erracht, went to America and with the 84th Royal Emigrants, help to defend Quebec against Arnold. In 1793, Alan Cameron raised the 79th Cameron Highlanders, Ewen Cameron of Lochiel fought on the Royalist side in the English Civil War.
Clan Seat is in Achnacarry, Spean Bridge. Their historic patron is Mac-Dhomnuil Duibh. And because of their Celtic origins the oak & the acorn bearing oak branch is their recognisable motif.
